Elen Snyder is the new chairperson of the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors for 2025.
She was elected during the supervisor’s reorganization meeting on Jan. 6.
Supervisor Dennis Fisher, who was the chairperson last year, takes on the role of vice chair, while Supervisor John Mack serves as secretary and assistant treasurer.
Snyder thanked her fellow supervisors for their confidence in her leadership.
“I’m truly passionate about protecting and supporting those who live and work here. It’s what drives me in this role,” she said.
Looking ahead, Snyder outlined key priorities for the year. These include upgrading existing police and fire stations, and finding ways to provide departments with additional resources not covered in this year’s budget.
“We’re committed to strengthening our departments,” Snyder explained. “This means looking for ways to bring on more police officers, firefighters, and public works employees. We’re also focusing on essential capital purchases like public works vehicles and investigative tools for our police force.”
Snyder also took a moment to commend Fisher for his guidance.
“Dennis has been an incredible example of strong, smart leadership,” she said. “He’s always been there to answer my questions about agendas or help me understand how the township operates from the ground up.”
Fisher provided a recap of the township’s achievements in 2024. These include expanding land use allowances in the Newtown Business Commons, improving walkability with new sidewalk connections, and enhancing pedestrian safety through new signalization at key intersections. He also highlighted that the township hired four firefighters through a SAFER grant and two police officers, with one serving as a school resource officer.
During the reorganization meeting, the board made several other appointments, including reappointing Micah Lewis as township manager.
In a 4-1 vote, the supervisors reappointed Kilkenny Law and Jerry Schenkman as township solicitor. Remington and Vernick Engineers were appointed as township civil engineer, traffic, environmental engineer, and lighting consultant in a 3-2 vote.
The board unanimously approved appointing Barry Islett and Associates as township building inspectors.
