Long-serving local government official Dave Nyman has announced plans to retire from his job managing Upper Makefield Township.

The December announced prompted the Upper Makefield Board of Supervisors to launch a search for his successor.

Nyman, who has been at the helm of the township’s day-to-day operations since his appointment as manager in 2016, will stay on until a new manager is hired.

The government official plans to participate in the search for his replacement as the township looks to have a new manager in place by March 2025, according to the Bucks County Herald.

Before his full-time appointment, Nyman served as interim manager in 2016, 2014, and 2012 during previous vacancies in the manager’s office. His tenure in Upper Makefield is just a part of his extensive career in municipal management across Bucks County, including interim manager roles in Warwick, Wrightstown, Plumstead, and West Rockhill townships.

In addition to his duties in Upper Makefield, Nyman serves as the vice chairperson of the East Rockhill Township Board of Supervisors and is a member of the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors.

Nyman began his public service career in education and tired from the Pennridge School District in 1999 after more than 30 years as a teacher.
