Amid rising tensions between President Donald Trump’s administration and Ukraine, Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick spoke with a top Ukrainian official on Monday.

Fitzpatrick’s full post on X, formerly Twitter:

“I just had a lengthy and productive one-on-one conversation with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Chief-of-Staff, Andrii Yermak. We are 100% getting this train back on the tracks. This mineral deal will be signed in short order, which will lead to a strong long-term economic partnership between the United States and Ukraine, and which will ultimately and naturally lead to security assistance. Europe will be required to step up and do its part, and there will be mandates for them to do just that. Stay tuned for further details.”

Andrii Yermak, the chief of staff to Zelenskyy, posted the below statement:

“Spoke with U.S. Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick

“Discussed the path toward a just peace and the Mineral Agreement with the U.S. Economic partnership is crucial for both our countries.

“There is mutual understanding, and we are moving toward a decision for our leaders to make.”

Fitzpatrick’s social media post followed a contentious Oval Office meeting on Friday where President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as the leaders met before reporters. Trump and Vance said they wanted the war to end and felt that Zelenskyy was not as grateful as he should and didn’t want peace, while Zelenskyy warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin had violated past agreements to end fighting.

Since his January inauguration, Trump has pushed for an end to the ongoing war and advocated for terms that have raised concerns among U.S. allies for being too favorable towards Moscow.

A staunch supporter of Ukraine, Fitzpatrick, a Republican and former FBI agent once stationed in Ukraine, has pointed to the need for a peace agreement that holds Russian forces accountable for the invasion.

Last year, the congressman introduced the Stand With Ukraine Act in a bid to bolster legislative support for Kyiv as it defends itself against the Russian invasion.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine escalated in 2022 with a full-scale assault following an initial invasion in 2014. The conflict has resulted in significant loss of life and substantial military losses on both sides.

According to the Washington Post, there are between 100,000 and 200,000 U.S. citizens of Ukrainian descent in Pennsylvania, with thousands in Fitzpatrick’s First Congressional District.
