A brush fire that prompted evacuations in Upper Makefield Township Thursday afternoon has been contained, and authorities reported no injuries or structural damage.
The Upper Makefield Township Police Department confirmed the fire, which burned in the area of Washington Crossing between Lord Sterling and Lafayette Drive, was out as of late afternoon.
“Gratefully, there were no injuries. No homes or structures were damaged,” police said in an update.
Authorities praised the cooperation of the community during the fire.
“We would like to thank the Washington Crossing Cooperative Nursery, the businesses and the residents in this area for their cooperation,” police said.
The department also expressed gratitude to the Upper Makefield Fire Company volunteers and neighboring fire companies that assisted in containing the blaze.
“As a team, we were able to ensure the safety of all and to limit the damage caused by the fire,” police said.
The fire had led to the precautionary evacuation of nearby homes and businesses, including the Washington Crossing Cooperative Nursery School. Children from the school were safely relocated to a nearby pharmacy to be reunited with their parents.

A large brush fire in Upper Makefield Township prompted evacuations Thursday afternoon, police said.
The fire is burning in the area of Washington Crossing between Lord Sterling and Lafayette Drive, according to the Upper Makefield Township Police Department.
As a precaution, officers were notifying and evacuating homes and businesses considered to be at the greatest risk, police said.
Children at the Washington Crossing Cooperative Nursery School were evacuated and all are accounted for, police said.
The children were taken to the Heritage Pharmacy on General Knox to be reunited with their parents.
“Everyone is safe and we so appreciate the school personnel handling this is such a professional, safe, and efficient manner,” police said in a statement.
Authorities asked residents to avoid the area to allow emergency personnel to work the scene.
Dry and breezy conditions in recent weeks have contributed to several brush fires across the county.
