With the tax filing deadline just hours away, numerous Bucks County taxpayers are reporting technical issues with the online system of Keystone Collections Group, the contractor responsible for collecting millions upon millions in local taxes.
Residents attempting to file and pay their earned income and other local taxes through Keystone’s e-file and pay system have encountered problems logging in since at least Monday, according to reports from readers of this news organization. Similar complaints from within Bucks County and other parts of the state have surfaced on social media platforms like Reddit and X, formerly known as Twitter.
Several tax collectors and municipal officials in lower and central Bucks County confirmed they are aware of the widespread issues due to an influx of complaints from frustrated residents.
Keith White said he has been unable to access the e-file system for two days, and the Keystone Collections Group website has prevented him from logging in or resetting his password.
On Reddit, one user described only being able to gain access after repeatedly clicking the login button.
Falls Township Tax Collector Kimberly Scarpiello stated she has received numerous complaints from taxpayers struggling to settle their local, state, and federal tax obligations.
“Some of the people are getting angry,” she said.
Scarpiello and other Bucks County municipal officials indicated they have received no communication from Keystone Collections Group regarding the ongoing problems.
“I’ve had more people than coming in here to try to pay to Keystone, but I have to tell them they can call Keystone,” one local tax official said.
The deadline to file taxes online or have them postmarked is the end of Tuesday. Taxpayers can file for extensions.
Attempts by this news organization to contact Keystone Collections Group via phone on Tuesday resulted in either disconnected calls or a busy signal. An email sent to the company, which is contracted by numerous local governments, stated that they would respond within three business days.
The company’s website posted a notice advising taxpayers that “Keystone is currently experiencing higher than usual website traffic. If you encounter filing or payment issues, you may remit by mail to ensure timely filing.”
One municipal official reported hearing about problems with Keystone Collection Group’s website dating back a week.
Keystone Collections Group’s website does include a form for residents to request an extension, which can be mailed. However, the document specifies that payment must still be submitted.
Nicole Hinkel, who operates Yardley-based MSC Prosperity Tax and Accounting Services, advised those experiencing difficulties filing electronically to ensure their filings are postmarked and mailed before the post office closes.
Westmoreland County-based Keystone Collections Group provides tax collection services for governments across Pennsylvania, including in Chester, Delaware, Greene, and Tioga counties.
