The Bucks County Recovery Court has been designated a National Mentor Court for a three-year term, the Bucks County Court of Common Pleas announced.
President Judge Raymond McHugh said the designation was awarded by AllRise, which was formerly the National Association of Drug Court Professionals, recognized the court’s adherence to best practices. The term runs through 2027.
The selection followed a thorough evaluation of the court’s policies and procedures, and an in-person assessment by an AllRise director.
As a mentor court, Bucks County Recovery Court will provide training and technical assistance to other courts and host teams from other jurisdictions to observe and learn. The court will support a nationwide network of more than 4,000 treatment courts, officials said.
Established in 2010, the Bucks County Recovery Court offers an alternative to incarceration for individuals with substance use issues and/or mental health disorders. In 2021, a Wellness/Mental Health Court was added, and the veterans program recently became Veterans Court.
Treatment courts uses intensive community supervision, evidence-based treatment, and recovery and community supports.
The Bucks County Recovery Court involves representatives from the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office, Court Administration, Adult Probation, Drug and Alcohol Commission, Bucks County Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Programs, and the Sheriff’s Office.
Additionally, Bucks County Treatment Courts have been selected as one of 11 court programs nationally to participate in a learning collaborative focused on integrating trauma-informed practices. The collaborative is offered through the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Gain Center and will provide training, support, and expert assistance in developing a strategic plan.
