Mediterranean fast-casual chain CAVA is looking to open in Newtown Township.
The restaurant recently appeared before the Newtown Township Planning Commission seeking conditional use approval to move into the vacant storefront previously occupied by MOD Pizza in the Village at Newtown Shopping Center. The news was first reported by Newtown Patch.
CAVA still needs to secure conditional use approval from the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors.
Founded in 2006 by first-generation Greek Americans in Maryland, CAVA has experienced rapid growth, touting its quick service of Mediterranean meals and dips with an emphasis on healthy choices.
The company reported a 28.3 percent increase in revenue last year and opened just over 50 new locations.
CAVA has expanded to more than 360 locations, including several in the Philadelphia region. The Newtown Township site would mark the chain’s first location in Bucks County.
In 2018, CAVA acquired the remnants of the Zoës Kitchen chain, with all of those locations subsequently closing or being converted into CAVA restaurants.
MOD Pizza was evicted from the shopping center late last year as the chain faced financial struggles.
