Construction is moving forward on a new Wawa convenience store and gas station located along the Newtown Bypass.

The 5,585-square-foot store and accompanying six fuel pumps are taking shape on the 4.95-acre site at the corner of the Newtown Bypass and Lower Silver Lake Road in Newtown Township.

Construction has been happening at the site since last year.

According to Newtown Township Supervisor John Mack, Wawa last year committed to installing solar panels on the gas pump canopy.

The project is the result of a 2023 settlement between the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors and Wawa, which ended after a legal dispute over the site’s development.

The development of the Wawa has been a contentious issue within the community for several years.
