A driver who allegedly stole a cell phone after blocking traffic Saturday evening eventually returned the device to its owner, according to the Upper Makefield Township Police Department.

No injuries were reported in the incident, which police said occurred around 6:57 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Taylorsville Road and River Road in the township.

Police said a driver intentionally stopped their vehicle, blocked traffic, then exited, and approached another driver.

The suspect reportedly claimed to be lost and asked to use the other driver’s cell phone.

After the unsuspecting driver handed over their phone, the suspect allegedly drove off with the device, police said.

The driver who had the phone stolen reportedly held onto the side of the suspect’s vehicle as it began to move, but let go to avoid being dragged, police said.

The driver who had the phone stolen then got back into their own car and followed the suspect, police said.

The suspect eventually stopped, returned the phone, and fled the area, police said.

Upper Makefield Township police stated they have possibly identified the suspect and the investigation is ongoing.
