County Honors Fallen Officers At Wreath Lighting

Law enforcement officials from across Bucks County gathered recently at the Administration Building in Doylestown Borough for the annual Project Blue Light wreath lighting ceremony.

The ceremony brought together officials from local municipalities and the county government to remember the 16 officers lost since 1898.

A wreath that is hung in the county building’s third-floor rotunda is illuminated with blue lights and white ornaments, with each ornament representing one of the fallen lawmen.

The wreath will remain lit throughout the holiday season.

“This deeply meaningful ceremony honors the memory of Bucks County law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty,” the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office said.

Project Blue Light began over 30 years ago and was founded by Dolly Craig of Philadelphia. The county has taken part in the tradition for 15 years. The observance started in 1988 when Craig placed two blue candle lights in her home window, one for her son-in-law, Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Gleason, who was killed in the line of duty in 1986, and another for her daughter Pam, Gleason’s wife, who died in an auto crash in 1988. The couple left behind six children.
