Bucks County hosted another prescription take back on Saturday to wide success.

Volunteers at the Newtown Fire Association on Liberty Street in Newtown Borough explained that the flow of participants dropping off drugs had been constant and consistent. Volunteer Steve McGill attributed this to the basic need for this type of event, but also the great weather on Saturday morning.

“You think that because you’re involved in it, everybody knows about it,” McGill said, referencing the importance of these events to raise awareness of the problems these take backs programs help with.

Over at the Newtown Township Municipal Building on Eagle Road, volunteers collected two full boxes by about noon. According to Detective Daniel Bartle, about 40 to 50 pounds of medications were collected midway through the event.

People getting rid of medicine are doing so for all different reasons, Bartle said. “We’re hearing different things: People who have had the medicine for years, people who got more than they needed.”

“It’s so successful that we have set the best practices in the state and nation,” said Donna Foisy, the co-chair of Council Rock Coalition for Healthy Youth.

How many pounds of old or expired drugs were collected:

Bucks County: 10,394.79 pounds

Newtown Borough: 105 pounds

Newtown Township & Wightstown: 93.99 pounds

Upper Makefield: 130.95 pounds
