Police Log: Theft From Hotel, Items Taken From Vehicles & More

July 15

Scam

Around 9 a.m., police spoke with a resident who reported receiving a phone message regarding possible fraud and her social security number.  The resident returned the call and was told that she needs to send a check for $250 to an address in Manchester, York County.  The officer told the woman that no Government agency would call ask for money.   The officer forwarded a copy of the report to the police department in Manchester for their information.      

July 18

Scam

At approximately 1:40 p.m., a resident called police to report that a few weeks ago she had received a phone message to return the call regarding a legal matter against her.  She didn’t return today she received a second message from the same number.  The office advised her to continue to ignore the messages since this sort of action is typical of scam artists.  

July 19

Theft

At approximately 10:30 a.m., police responded to Homewood Suites for a report of a theft from one of the guests.  The victim reported the theft to filed complaint at front desk and requested that police be notified.  Management of the establishment is cooperating with the police investigation and will proved police with a description and value of the watch and perfume that were missing.

Retail Theft

Shortly before 11 a.m., police were dispatched to the Staples store for a report of a theft that occurred on Monday July 18th.  The officer met with an employee who said that a   female subject entered the store and stole two backpacks and a life planner.  She waited for a customer to come in the entrance door and then quickly left the store.  The items taken were valued at $102.38.

Scam

A resident called to report receiving harassing phone calls with the callers identifying themselves as representatives of the I.R.S. The woman said the she receives multiple calls a day and is aware that it is a scam.  

July 20

Theft From Vehicle

A resident of Millstone Drive called police around 7:15 a.m. to report a theft from her vehicle that occurred overnight.  She told the reporting officer her vehicle was unlocked with the keys in it when someone took her sunglasses and wallet which contained her personal identification and multiple credit cards.  

Theft

Around 8:30 p.m., a resident of Hill Croft Way reported someone stole a bicycle that was left outside his home overnight.  The victim said that a light colored pick-up was observed in the area near the home before the theft was discovered.  No value of the bike was provided.      

July 21

Theft From Vehicle

Shortly after 8 a.m., a resident of Millstone Drive came to police headquarters to report that sometime between July 19th and 20th someone had entered two unlocked vehicles parked in the driveway removing loose change and prescription sunglasses.   

Scam

At approximately 1:30 p.m., a Cypress Place came to police headquarters to report that he received a call from a male who identified himself as a representative of the IRS providing the resident with a badge number a case number continuing that the resident owed a significant amount of money in back taxes.  The resident provided the caller with some personal information then the call was disconnected.  He attempted to call the number back was again disconnected.  The resident became concerned that he had provided his information.
