Newtown Township police have charged an area man after he falsely reported his parent’s vehicle stolen to cover up a lie.

Daniel Christopher, 34, of Newtown, was arrested and charged with making a false report to police.

According to officials, police were dispatched to an area residence on February 7 for the report of a stolen vehicle. Upon arrival police met with Christopher, who reported that while his parents were away on vacation, their Ford Escape, had gone missing.

After further investigation, police officials noted that the car, which Christopher said had been parked in the home’s garage, had been located in Philadelphia.

Christopher, who underwent additional questioning about the incident, then admitted to police that he made the story up to cover the fact that he had been involved in a traffic accident in Philadelphia.

Christopher told police that after the accident he drove the vehicle back to Newtown before driving it back to Philadelphia and abandoning it before catching a train back to the area.

Christopher was arraigned and released on $10,000 unsecured bail.

Editor’s Note: All individuals arrested or charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty. The story was compiled using information from police and public court documents.
