Shortly before 1:40 p.m., police were dispatched to Tulip Drive for a report from a tow truck driver who struck a fire hydrant. Upon arrival I met with the vehicle driver who said he attempted to turn left from North Drive onto Tulip Drive when he lost control, ran up the curb and struck a fire hydrant knocking it over. There were no injuries but the tow truck had damage to the front bumper area and two flat tires. The Newtown Artesian Water Authority was notified about the fire hydrant.

Fraud

A resident of Newtown Township called police shortly after 10 a.m. to report that she had just received a call from a male caller who identified himself as her grandson. She knew immediately it was not her grandson’s voice and challenged the caller, who then said he had a bad cold. The caller said he was in trouble and needed $3,000 in a Target gift card. He instructed her to get the card and he would call back at 1:00 PM today. She recognized it was a scam and called police. The officer confirmed the resident’s suspicions of the scam and instructed her not to follow up with the caller.
