Upcoming spraying for mosquitoes will hit portions of Tyler State Park and Washington Crossing Historic Park.
The spraying will take place in portions of Tyler State Park in Newtown and Northampton townships and Washington Crossing Historic Park in Upper Makefield next Tuesday, September 5 starting at dusk. Spraying will also take place in Warwick and Buckingham townships.
“The treatments will be administered via truck-mounted equipment, and ATV mounted equipment. The spray will begin at dusk. The equipment dispenses Duet, a Dual-Action Adulticide at a rate of 0.75 ounces per acre. The product is designed to provide quick, effective control of adult mosquito populations. The application material has a very low toxicity profile to mammals and will have negligible impact on non-target insects and the environment,” a press release from the county stated.
The spray operation is dependent on the weather and a back-up date is Wednesday, September 6.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in five people with West Nile Virus,m which is carried by mosquitoes, will show symptoms, with less than 1 percent developing the most serious illness.
Officials say using insect repellent and wearing protective clothing to prevent mosquito bites can help reduce the chances of being bitten.
