The Bucks County Commissioners have thrown their support behind the September 11th National Memorial Trail that would connect the sites of all three attack locations.

Last week, the Commissioners approved a resolution that would support the creation of the multi-purpose 1,300-mile circuit trail that would link the Pentagon in Virginia with the Flight 93 crash site in Shanksville, Somerset County, and the World Trade Center memorial in New York City.

“This trail is a 1,300-mile symbol of resiliency and character that links the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon and the Flight 93 memorial in Shanksville,” Commissioner Robert Loughery said. “It serves as a tribute to the fallen men and women who perished on September 11, 2001.”

The trail would come into Bucks County in Yardley and travel to the Garden of Reflection in Lower Makefield before cutting through Central Bucks County and heading into Montgomery County, according to preliminary plans from the September 11th National Memorial Trail Alliance.

Loughery said the trail would showcase urban, suburban and natural landmarks throughout and be accessible by hikers, cyclists, walkers and those on horseback. He compared it to the urban equivalent of the Appalachian Trail.

The trail in Bucks County will be worked into existing paths.
