Organizers are inviting the public to a free, “once-in-a-lifetime” artistic display Saturday evening at Washington Crossing Historic Park.

Swiss artist Gerry Hofstetter and his team will project images of George Washington crossing the Delaware River onto a 80- by 30-foot “water shield” that will use water pumped from the river and into the air. The pump that puts out the mist that makes up the water shield will be placed on the of the park’s Durham boats, a replica of the ones Washington’s troops used to cross the river in December 1776.

The amazing display will take place for about one hour starting at 7 p.m. and will be accompanied by music. The public is invited to bring their own blankets and chairs to watch from the bank of the river.

Hofstetter, a world-renowned artist, is stopping at the park in Upper Makefield as part of a three-year Light Art Grand Tour that will make stops in each state. Hofstetter’s schedule in 2017 will see him putting on displays at the original 13 colonies.

While the event is free, a VIP tent will be open and tickets are $35. The VIP tickets will allow attendees to meet the artist and enjoy light refreshments. For more information on the tickets, call 215-493- 4076.

Organizers note that the event is contingent on river conditions for safety reasons.
