Bucks County authorities collected a whopping 9,843 pounds of unused, unneeded or expired prescription medications over the weekend.
The Saturday collection event that took place at 50 locations across Bucks County netted the impressive total.
Officials said the drugs will transported and incinerated under the watchful eyes of law enforcement.
The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day event gives residents a chance to safely get rid of medications that otherwise may end up being used illegally or in the public water system.
The county has 34 year-round collection sites, including a number in Lower Bucks County. The full list can be found by finding the “Drug Medication Collection Boxes” link on the right side of the Bucks Promise for Youth and Communities blog.
Since 2010, drop-off points in the county have collected 117,000 pounds of unused, unneeded or expired prescription medications.
