Newtown Township police said a suspect in non-violent thefts was arrested near Council Rock High School North Wednesday morning.

Around 7 a.m., officers began investigating the wanted person in the area of Salad Works on South Eagle Road. In an effort to avoid officers, he and an accomplice fled in different directions. The wanted man fled toward the wooded area between the high school shopping center, police said.

Both men were quickly located and arrested, police said.

“Although this incident took place near the school property, it was entirely unrelated to school activities and there was no immediate safety concern involving the school,” police said in a statement.

High school Principal Susan McCarthy sent an email to parents alerting them that police were in the area of the campus earlier in the morning and the situation had been resolved.
