Social media posts have indicated there will be a rally for Palestine and a possible counterprotest Wednesday evening in Newtown Township.

According to online postings, “Flood Newtown For Palestine,” a reported rally to “stand against genocide,” is planned for 5:30 p.m. in the Newtown Shopping Center on West Road.

“From Philly to D.C. to Bucks County, it’s our duty to stay in the streets and keep shutting down business as usual until Palestine is free! Say it loud & say it clear: LIBERATION IS NEAR!” according to a post from Party for Socialism and Liberation – Philly.

Other postings, which have since been removed from social media, said a counter protest was being planned.

The rally follows a number held nationwide following the October 7 attack on Israel by Hamas and the nation’s subsequent war in Palestine.

Newtown Township police confirmed they were aware of the event and had some contact with the reported organizer.

A regional law enforcement source, who is not a member of the Newtown Township Police Department, told NewtownPANow.com that federal and state authorities were aware of the planned rally.

“Although there are still a lot of unknowns with it; however, assuming the crowd size warrants, I would expect some short or temporary road closures,” said Newtown Township police Capt. Jason Harris.

The captain added that surrounding towns have been alerted and can send additional officers if needed.

Since the attack and war began, there have been a reported increase in anti-Muslim and anti-Semitic incidents around the nation.
