A young woman was killed, and the alleged perpetrator was undergoing surgery as of Friday evening.

Acting in response to a 9-1-1 call, Lower Makefield Township police officers arrived at Waterford Road in the Brook Stone condo complex off Township Line Road and found a 24-year-old man stabbing a 19-year-old woman, police Chief Ken Coluzzi said.

Officers rushed toward the injured woman and the 24-year-old man ran off. He began to stab himself while fleeing, the chief said.

The man ended up running a short distance and got onto I-295 before officers took him into custody, Coluzzi said.

The chief said the woman was pronounced deceased, and the man suffered serious injuries. He was taken to St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown Township.

“He’s about to undergo surgery, and we have a police guard there,” Coluzzi said.

LevittownNow.com and NewtownPANow.com readers said there were police and ambulances at the scene inside the Brook Stone development and along I-295.

Blood was visible near a red Ford Mustang with its door ajar and on a fence that separates the condo complex from I-295. It was also on medical gear, likely from emergency responders, left on Sterling and Waterford roads.

“This was an apparent domestic,” the chief said.

The 19-year-old woman was a living in the complex with a family member, while the 24-year-old man was a resident of a nearby township. The chief said investigators were confirming his hometown.

Officers from Lower Makefield and Newtown townships held the scene and detectives were processing evidence as of 4:30 p.m.
