The investigation into the death of a man found in a burning vehicle last week in Lower Makefield Township continued this week.

The man’s name hasn’t been released, but the coroner said she believes they have a possible identification of the man.

The Bucks County Coroner’s Office will have a dental exam performed later this week to confirm the man’s identity, Coroner Patti Campi said.

Lower Makefield Township police Deputy Chief Bob Lewis said the cause remains unknown as of Wednesday.

Lower Makefield Township police and the Yardley-Makefield Fire Company responded to reports of a fire at St. Ignatius Cemetery adjacent to Macclesfield Park on River Road around 10:45 p.m. last Thursday. The first report was for a brush fire, but responders soon realized the blaze involved a vehicle parked in the cemetery’s rear, authorities said.

After extinguishing the flames, firefighters discovered human remains in the driver’s seat, police said.

The shocking discovery has sparked an intense investigation, with the Lower Makefield Township Police Department leading the inquiry into how and why the incident occurred. With many questions still unanswered, including the cause of the fire and whether foul play was involved, authorities are appealing to the public for any information that might shed light on the case.

The Lower Makefield Township Police Department has been asking for anyone with information on the incident to call detectives at 215-493-4055.
