If you recently made a purchase with a credit or debit card at the Newtown Township Wendy’s, your card information may have been stolen.
The chain announced the Newtown Wendy’s on South Eagle Road was among several hundred stores where malware used to steal credit and debit card information was found on computers. The hackers were likely able to get cardholder name, credit or debit card number, expiration date, cardholder verification value and service code data between December 2, 2015 and June 8.
“Wendy’s has disabled the malware where it has been detected,” the company said in a statement.
Wendy’s, which has around 5,700 locations in America, said problems with its computer point-of-sale system were found at some eateries earlier this year and the full extent of the attack was realized until June.
“In a world where malicious cyberattacks have unfortunately become all too common for merchants, we are committed to doing what is necessary to protect our customers. We will continue to work diligently with our investigative team to apply what we have learned from these incidents and further strengthen our data security measures. Thank you for your continued patience, understanding and support,” Wendy’s CEO Todd Penegor wrote in a letter to customers.
