The effort to fill the now-empty seat on Newtown Borough Council is underway.

On Tuesday evening, Council formally accepted State Rep. Perry Warren’s resignation from the town’s governing body. They now have until early next month to fill his vacancy.

Officials said there are three applicants to fill the seat. Interviews with candidates will take place during the February 8 work session.

Warren’s last Council meeting was in December. At the meeting, he received a plaque with a Bucks County-made Mercer Tile thanking him for his service.

“It has been a pleasure and an honor to serve the residents of Newtown Borough over the past seven years,” Perry said at the time. “I thank them for their support, as well as the support of my present and past colleagues on council and the mayors we have worked with.”

Warren was sworn in January 3 to serve the the 31st Legislative District, which includes all of Newtown Borough, Newtown Township, Lower Makefield and Yardley and a portion of Morrisville.
