The Newtown Business Association (NBA) celebrated its members at their annual breakfast meeting Thursday morning.

About 100 local business leaders came together at Chandler Hall for the event that recognized sponsors, volunteers and members who have gone above and beyond.

Beverly Dimler, the president of the NBA and an employee of Penns Trail Self Storage, thanked all those who helped make 2016 such a successful year for the area business associations. She said popular events such as the Newtown Holiday Parade, Welcome Day, the Easter Egg Hunt and the Antique and Classic Car Show would not be possible without the support of the community.

NBA Board member Leigh Sheek-Vogel said she joined the NBA when it had only 30 members, adding it has grown to more than 300, a worthy accomplishment.

Before the awards presentation, an $800 check from the NBA was presented to the Neighborhood Outreach Foundation. The funds were raised during the recent Breakfast with Santa.

Also at the meeting, outgoing board members Kenneth Ogborn and Jeff Tihansky were recognized for their years of dedication to the group.

Community Service Award

Kenneth Ogborn of Action Karate was recognized for his dedication as a board member for the NBA and his assistance in numerous events.

Dimler said Ogborn plays such a large role in the organization that it is tough to even list everything he does.

Humanitarian Award

Debbie Moskovitz of the Council Rock Coalition for Healthy Youth (CRCHY) was presented with the NBA Humanitarian Award for her selfless commitment to serve the community.

CRCHY works within the school district boundaries to help prevent and reduce substance abuse among area youth.

While accepting the award, Moskovitz noted the mission of the group is more important than ever before.

President’s Award

Gerry Couch of Financial Fidelity Enterprises received the NBA President’s Award for his dedication and leadership in the community.

Couch, a Newtown Township supervisor, is the NBA’s first community liaison and will be heading up welcoming new businesses and attending ribbon cuttings. He will also be working with the Newtown Mercantile Group.

Distinguished Service Award

Kevin Brooks of Johnson, Kendall and Johnson might be among the younger members of the NBA, but he was recognized for taking his volunteerism to the next level.

Dimler said Brooks is always available to help with NBA events. “He’s only a call or text away,” she said.

Unsung Hero Award

Jessica Grosso of Town and Country Kennel and Claire Adele Designs accepted the Unsung Hero’s Award for her efforts to help the NBA.

Grosso, who heads up the Newtown Easter Egg Hunt, said the NBA has provided her with new friends and helped her giveback to the community. She is already working to plan this year’s Easter Egg Hunt, which is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 8 at Goodnoe Elementary School.

Business of the Year Award

The Fegley Law Firm was named 2016 business of the year for their exemplary support of the NBA.

Owner Scott Fegley, who also represents the Newtown Arts Company, thanked his wife, Carolyn, for her support and help at the practice.

“It’s also been very rewarding being a part of this organization,” Fegley told the group.
