The Newtown Borough Board of Supervisors honored seven township police officers at their Wednesday evening meeting.

The Newtown Township Police Department provided the following information on the officers recognized:

  • Officer Hardy received a Life Saving Commendation as a result of his actions when he responded to a call for a heroin overdose on November 19, 2016.  Upon arrival at the scene Officer Hardy found an unresponsive female without a pulse.  He administered Narcan and performed CPR which resulted in the female regaining a pulse and her life was sustained.
  • Officers Goodwin & Ferraro received Life Saving Commendations as a result of their quick actions as a team when responding to a call for a heroin overdose on November 21, 2016.  When these officers arrived at the scene it was obvious to them that the male was suffering life threatening symptoms of an overdose.  Narcan was administered and the man displayed signs of recovery before he was transported to the hospital.
  • Officer Rawa received a Life Saving Commendation due to his professionalism when he responded to a report of a male in cardiac arrest with possible drug use on January 11, 2017.  When Officer Rawa arrived he observed an unresponsive young man and immediately administered Narcan to the patient.  Shortly thereafter, the patient became responsive and was transported to the hospital.
  • Corporal Hardy, Officers Whitney and Goodwin received Life Saving Commendations for their courageous efforts at the scene of a dwelling fire on May 10, 2017.  They encountered moderate fire and heavy smoke coming from a condominium, quickly confirmed the occupant of the unit was safe and immediately began evacuation efforts from the adjoining units.  Their courageous acts, without regards for personal safety, ultimately saved six lives.
  • Corporal Deppi received a Life Saving Commendation for his immediate actions on May 16, 2017 when he responded to a traffic accident where one of the drivers was entrapped.  He immediately realized that the woman was not breathing and her pulse was weakened.  Due to his First Aid and CPR training he instinctively moved the woman which allowed her airway to naturally reopen. Corporal Deppi’s prompt procedures helped to save the patient preventing further serious injury or death.
  • Sergeant Ambrose received a Life Saving Commendation due to his intuitive actions when he came upon a vehicle stopped along the Newtown Bypass on May 18, 2017.  Sergeant Ambrose’s instincts compelled him to investigate which led to the discovery of a man in the driver’s seat who appeared to be unconscious.  An ambulance was summoned, after many attempts to awaken the man Sergeant Ambrose broke a window allowing him to reposition the man’s head to allow easier breathing until the ambulance arrived.
