The former Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant in the Village at Newtown will soon see new life following a federal judge’s approval.
PJW Restaurant Group, which operates the P.J. Whelihan Restaurant and Bar chain, has a lease for the space in Newtown Township.
The move, which was reported by Patch.com, comes as part of Iron Hill’s ongoing bankruptcy proceedings.
The roughly 8,000-square-foot space has sat vacant since Iron Hill shuttered the location, which originally opened in June 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
While the acquisition is confirmed, the specific concept planned for the site remains under wraps.
Kristen Foord, marketing director for PJW Restaurant Group, told The Philadelphia Inquirer that the company is “not in a position to share additional specifics” on the location.
Court documents from the Iron Hill Brewery of Newtown LLC bankruptcy filing reveal the local entity owed more than $400,000 to various creditors. Among those owed is the shopping center’s owner, Brixmor.
The Iron Hill corporate entity reported total debts exceeding $20 million across its various filings.
The Newtown Township location was one of 16 locations closed abruptly by the brewery chain last September.
PJW Restaurant Group was founded in 1983 by Bob Platzer with the support of his wife, Donna, the group has expanded from a single storefront to a portfolio of 32 restaurants. The company currently operates six different dining concepts throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
