UPDATE: Disputes Over Building, Liquor License Led To Closure Of Rocco’s At The Brick

Rocco’s at The Brick, the upscale eatery in the heart of Newtown Borough, unexpectedly closed its doors over the weekend.

The closure left customers with unanswered questions.

The popular State Street restaurant and bar was open for business Saturday but was shuttered by Sunday.

A sign posted on the door read, “We Are Closed.”

The sign advising customers that the office would be open at 10 a.m. and there would be gift card refunds.

The Brick Hotel, which owns the building and leases the space to Rocco’s, remains open.

The hotel and restaurant’s social media accounts did not mention the closure as of Sunday.

According to a State Street business owner who spoke to NewtownPANow.com, employees of Rocco’s at The Brick were informed of the impending closure shortly after a busy Saturday night of service.

Rocco’s at The Brick had been advertising that it was booking for holiday parties leading up to this weekend.

On social media, numerous people mentioned plans to visit the eatery.

As of Monday morning, details surrounding the cause of the closure remained scarce, despite several circulating rumors.

The liquor license, which is owned by the operators of The Brick Hotel, was still listed as active in Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board records.

The State Street business owner noted that the restaurant’s point-of-sale computers were still inside the building Sunday evening, but the dining room was empty.

Rocco’s at The Brick first opened in early 2018 and replaced the hotel’s longtime in-house dining spot, The Garden Grill.
