A truck struck Cold Spring Beverages in Wrightstown early Sunday morning and drove off.
Newtown Township officers, who patrol Wrightstown, were called to the beer distributor on Durham Road around 5:50 a.m. Sunday for an alarm activation. Arriving officers found an employee at the store and heavy damage to a portion of the building, police said.
“There was a gaping hole on the northwest corner and a large pile of debris. It was immediately apparent that a vehicle hit the building and left the scene,” police said in a press release.
Officers searched the area for the striking vehicle and sent an alert to surrounding towns.
A detective and Wrightstown’s Code Enforcement Officer Ted Middleman, who also serves as fire marshal, responded to the scene.
“Witness statements assisted police with the investigation led officers to conclude that, it appears that a tri-axle tractor-trailer attempted to turn around in the parking lot. One witness reported that the commercial vehicle jockeyed several times and as it turned left, the trailer jutted out and struck the corner of the brick facade and concrete block causing severe damage. Another witness reported she observed a tractor trailer matching, turn into Anchor Shopping Center, causing damage to the landscaping,” police said, adding they found evidence the tractor-trailer also caused damaged to the Anchor Shopping Center.
After an inspection, a portion of the store was closed until repairs could be made. As of Tuesday, the store has reopened, an employee told NewtownPANow.com.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Corporal Paul Deppi at (215) 579-1000 ext. 280 and leave a voicemail.
