A building was heavily damaged by a fire Saturday evening.

Volunteer firefighters were called to the 800 block of Dolington Road in Upper Makefield around 6:50 p.m. for a fire in a garage that had an art studio above it.

Upper Makefield Fire Company Chief Tim Brewer said firefighters arrived to find flames shooting from the building. A propane tank against the structure was also set ablaze by the fire.

Crews immediately began efforts to knock down the flames and were able to bring the fire under control within about 35 minutes, Brewer said.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the blaze was being investigated by the Upper Makefield Fire Marshal’s Office.

Brewer said the fire just feet from making contact with a nearby house.

The homeowner said they were alerted to the fire by passing motorist.

Crews from the Newtown Fire Association, Yardley-Makefield Fire Company, New Hope Eagle Fire Company, Northampton and Union Fire Company from Titusville, New Jersey assisted Upper Makefield firefighters.

Police blocked Dolington Road in the area of the fire.
