Upper Makefield Supervisor Facing Criminal Charges, Newspaper Reports

IMG_4381 police lightsThe Doylestown Intelligencer reported Thursday evening that a member of the Upper Makefield Board of Supervisors is facing criminal charges.

Supervisor Michael P. Tierney, 33, of Upper Makefield, was charged via summons Thursday with misdemeanor agricultural vandalism and agricultural trespasser on posted land. He was charged with several summary offenses, including criminal mischief and travel on cultivated land.

Doylestown Intelligencer reporter Adrian Sipes wrote that Tierney, according to an affidavit of probable cause, told an officer that he was intoxicated when he drove his truck onto a field off Pidcock Creek Road in Solebury early Sunday morning. He also allegedly was shown to have a .18 blood alcohol content after taking a portable breath test.

Tierney’s father and girlfriend were stopped by police as they headed to help the 33 year old get his truck out of the mud. Tierney’s father refused the officer’s help but the lawman caught up to them and the township supervisor a short time later in the field, the newspaper reported.

While Tierney allegedly said he had permission to be on the property, police records appear to show otherwise.

Tierney, a Marine veteran who has served the U.S. in Iraq, had no criminal history as an adult in Bucks County, according to court records searched by NewtownPANow.com. A biography on the Upper Makefield municipal website notes Tierney is a college-educated farmer who has been recognized for his work bringing agriculture awareness to city youth.

NewtownPANow.com requested comment in relation to the charges Thursday evening from Tierney and Solebury police.

Tierney was elected to the Upper Makefield Board of Supervisors in November 2013.

Editor’s Note: All individuals arrested or charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty. The story was compiled using information from police and public court documents.
