A motorcyclist was rushed to the hospital after suffering injuries in a Thursday evening crash.

The motorcyclist and a vehicle collided in the southbound lanes of River Road near the curve and canal bridge around 7:34 p.m. Police, volunteer firefighters and medics were called to the scene, officials said.

The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and sustained head injuries. He was rushed to St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown for treatment, police said.

The road was closed in both directions for a period time following the crash.

Police said the wreck remained under investigation as of late Thursday night.
