According to a memo released to reporters Friday, the Eighth District Congressional race between Republican Brian Fitzpatrick and Democratic State Rep. Steve Santarsiero isn’t as close as many people may have suspected.
The September 13 memo from consulting firm Communication Concepts, said that a poll of 416 “likely voters” in the district showed Fitzpatrick leading over Santarsiero by 12 points. According to the poll, Fitzpatrick has 50 percent backing from likely voters, Santarsiero has 38 percent and 12 percent of voters are undecided.
The poll data was taken in the middle of last week before Santarsiero’s “six-figure” TV ad was on air for more than a day and following a spirited radio debate on a Levittown AM station.
“Once voters know that Brian is not his brother Mike, but instead was recruited by Republican Party bosses to move to Pennsylvania and that Brian supports Donald Trump for president, wants to defund Planned Parenthood, and plans to vote for a budget that would slash Social Security and Medicare, there is no doubt that the voters of the Eighth Congressional District will elect Steve Santarsiero as our next Congressman,” Eric Goldman Santarsiero’s campaign manager said.
Aaron Clark, Fitzpatrick’s spokesman, said the poll numbers show that Fitzpatrick’s “credentials and vision” are connecting with voters in Bucks and Montgomery counties.
The Eighth District Congressional race is one of the most watched this election cycle and has gained the attention of both the major parties national organizations.
