An overnight fire at the pool building at the Newtown Athletic Club was under investigation as of Friday morning.

The fire at the popular Newtown Athletic Club on Pheasant Run was dispatched around 11:55 p.m. Thursday and upgraded to bring in firefighters from around the area around midnight when crews arrived to find heavy smoke showing.

The Newtown Fire Association said in a social media post that crews quickly were able to knock down the fire and placed it under control a short time later.

In their post, the fire association noted that the Newtown Township Fire Marshal’s Office and police were looking into the cause of the blaze.

Jim Worthington, the owner of the Newtown Athletic Club, said he was in Washington D.C. and would have a full overview of the damage by early afternoon.
