About 22 members of the Newtown Township non-uniformed workforce have a new contract after the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the deal in late January.

The three-year contract for Communications Workers of America Local 13000 covers public works employees, zoning and code enforcement, office staff and others. It’s retroactive to Jan. 1, 2023, extends through Dec. 31, 2025 and has 3 percent salary increases each of the three years.

Among many other provisions in the deal, it gives the township the right to discontinue a custodial position once the person currently in that job retires or otherwise separates from the township, Manager Micah Lewis said. The contract had previously been ratified by the union, he added.

“I want to thank the negotiating team for getting this done,” Supervisors Chairman Dennis Fisher said.

In other recent actions, the board approved a one-year extension on the current tenant’s lease at the house at the township-owned Clark Nature Center on Durham Road (Route 413). The extension keeps the monthly rent at $1,300, Lewis said.
