Officers from the Upper Makefield Township Police Department responded to a call regarding a group of baby ducks trapped in storm drains on Saturday morning.
After a rescue effort spanning 90 minutes, the officers successfully rescued all six ducklings and ensured their safe return to their brood.
The incident unfolded shortly after 9 a.m. in the area of Crimson Leaf Drive and Greenbriar Circle when concerned citizens reported the plight of the trapped ducklings.
The officers lifted five storm grates, engaged in a series of back-and-forth maneuvers, and employed resourceful tactics to extricate the trapped ducklings from their precarious predicament. The efforts of the officers were rewarded as all six baby ducks were eventually freed, police said.
Following their rescue, the grateful ducklings wasted no time in expressing their joy, opting to take a refreshing dip in a neighbor’s pool.
Once they had indulged in their impromptu swimming session, the ducklings bid farewell to their temporary caretakers and continued on their journey.
The Upper Makefield Township Police Department expressed their gratitude in a Facebook post to a citizen who came to their aid during the rescue operation. The resident provided the officers with a net to help ensure the safe rescue of the ducklings.
