A hearing to consider requested variances for an ambitious project at the Grey Stone restaurant at 552 Washington Crossing Road in Newtown Township has been postponed until Aug. 3, officials with the township zoning hearing board announced at Thursday night’s meeting.

In other news from the meeting, it was announced that a plan by DeLuca Construction to subdivide a 3.1-acre property at 70 Twining Bridge Road, demolish three old buildings at the site and construct two new single-family homes has been withdrawn.

The owners of Grey Stone have requested eight variances connected to their plan to expand parking on the same side of Washington Crossing Road as the restaurant from the current 20 spaces to about 200 and build two additions to the restaurant totaling about 3,335 square feet.

Many patrons currently coming to the restaurant have to park in a lot of about 70 spaces located directly across Washington Crossing Road, a situation representatives for the owners have said raises safety concerns.

Variances for the project had been scheduled to be considered by the ZHB Thursday night but will now be at the Aug. 3 meeting, which starts at 7 p.m. at the township municipal building, 100 Municipal Drive just off Route 413.
