Marge McKeone started working with kids in need at the age of 16. She helped get them from housing projects to a summer camp.
Over the years, her love of social work grew and she realized it was the career for her.
After close to 35 years in social work in Bucks County, McKeone retired recently.
McKeone has led Bucks County’s Children and Youth Social Services Agency for several years and worked there even longer.
“I wish I were younger. I wish I got the director position when I was younger so I could stay longer, but family stuff intervened,” McKeone said.
“I’m hoping to stay around and be annoying, a little bit,” she added.
At a recent Bucks County Commissioners meeting, the governing body honored McKeone for her decades of work and presented a proclamation to her.
“Marge you are a true social worker. We are going to miss the magic you have brought to Children and Youth,” said Commissioner Diane Ellis-Marseglia, who has worked with McKeone for decades.
Commissioner Bob Harvie said McKeone’s impact on the county will last for decades to come.
McKeone started working for the county in 1989 while she was pursuing her master’s degree. She served as assistant director before becoming director in 2019.
Friday, October 6 was McKeone’s last day of work. The county proclaimed the date Marge McKeone Day.
