Residents of Upper Makefield Township can expect no increase in taxes for the year 2024.
The Upper Makefield Township Board of Supervisors recently approved a $12.5 million budget.
The 2024 budget allocates $9.1 million to the general fund, which is responsible for financing the township’s operations. The remainder of the budget is designated for various governmental costs and obligations.
“Despite 2023 inflation, expenditures have been kept to a minimum. This is due to the prudent financial planning by the Board of Supervisors and the diligence of Township staff, who consistently work to contain costs and reduce overall expenditures,” Township Manager David Nyman noted in his budget memo.
The township’s revenue primarily stems from real estate taxes and a 0.5 percent Earned Income Tax (EIT).
The average residential property owner will pay $445 in township taxes, excluding the EIT, with the average EIT payment being $785.07, according to budget records.
The largest allocation in the general budget include $2.8 million for funding the police department and $671,517 for planned road improvements.
Additionally, the township plans to invest in two new police vehicles, replace the generator for the township complex, and allocate $60,000 for streetscape crosswalks. Other purchases include a new zero-turn lawnmower costing $10,400.
The township’s staffing level will remain stable, with 36 full-time and two part-time employees, Nyman said.
Upper Makefield Township has reduced its real estate tax rate since 2011 from a high of 13.3525 mils to the current rate of 6.45 mils.
