A low-flying helicopter over the Newtown and New Hope areas this week was part of a power line inspection program.

Using a helicopter, crews examined transmission lines earlier his week in the lower and central parts of Bucks County, PECO spokesperson Brian Ahrens told this news organization.

“This work is part of our ongoing maintenance and inspection programs to ensure safe and reliable service for our customers,” PECO spokesperson Madison Davis said.

The helicopter inspections are part of the process to look at equipment and identify maintenance work that may be needed, Davis explained.

Photos and videos of the helicopter lit up social media this week across Bucks County.

NewtownPANow.com and NewHopeFreePress.com readers reported seeing the chopper on Newtown Township, New Hope Borough, Solebury Township, and from across the Delaware River in the City of Lambertville.

Last week, the inspections from above were over the Levittown area.

The helicopter inspections are not uncommon in the area and usually cause a stir.
