Piccolo Trattoria, a popular Italian restaurant in the Newtown Shopping Center, will soon be able to serve up alcohol.
The addition of a bar and alcohol menu will start following a Wednesday evening decision by the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors to approve a liquor license transfer.
The license was previously held by a bar in Falls Township and will be moved to Newtown Township.
The license will permit the restaurant in the Newtown Shopping Center to add a new bar area with 10 to 12 seats. The business’ capacity includes seating for 147 customers indoors and a new outdoor patio that accommodates about 80 guests.
Fahmi Elabed, owner of Piccolo Trattoria, welcomed the supervisor’s decision, noting that the restaurant has operated for years without issues.
However, the approval came with specific conditions for the new outdoor patio.
The supervisors stipulated that no music will be permitted outside. The supervisors noted they have followed that policy at other local businesses, including Harvest Seasonal Grill and Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant
Supervisors Chairman Dennis Fisher highlighted that while live music could be audible from inside the restaurant to those on the patio, the use of speakers outside would not be allowed.
Elabed pointed out that the restaurant’s location minimizes potential disturbances to neighbors, but the supervisors stuck with the rule.
Piccolo Trattoria also operates locations in Doylestown Township and Pennington in Mercer County, New Jersey. It previously had a location in Middletown Township.
