The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors approved plans Wednesday evening for a new indoor pickleball club.
The members-only club will take over the now-vacant Bed, Bath, and Beyond store at 20 West Road.
The decision follows an approval recommendation from the Newtown Township Planning Commission last month.
The Picklr, a Utah-based company, will transform the 30,000-square-foot retail space into a state-of-the-art, membership-only pickleball facility featuring 11 indoor courts.
The Newtown Township location will be The Picklr’s first location in Pennsylvania.
Since opening its first indoor location in 2021, The Picklr has grown rapidly and has 275 locations across the United States.
The planned facility will include professional-grade outdoor surfacing adapted for indoor use, a pro shop, and private areas for events. Additional amenities such as locker rooms and showers are designed to enhance the playing experience for members. The club will also offer league play, catering to the growing community of pickleball enthusiasts.
Pickleball’s popularity has soared in recent years and pickleball has been called America’s fastest-growing sport.
CNN reported issues such as injuries, noise concerns from residents, and competition for court time have also arisen across the country.
