A house in Upper Makefield Township was destroyed by an early morning fire on Tuesday, but all the residents managed to escape unharmed, officials said.

The fire broke out in a two-story single-family home located in the 100 block of Thompson Mill Road, which sits just off Pineville Road, around 5 a.m.

The Lingohocken Fire Company, along with Northampton Township Fire Department, Upper Makefield Fire Company, and Newtown Fire Rescue, responded to the blaze following the first reports.

Responding firefighters found the home engulfed in flames and immediately went into service to fire the blaze, according to information from the Lingohocken Fire Company.

The intensity of the fire called for additional support from Midway Fire Company, Warwick Township Fire Company, and New Hope Eagle Fire Company.

According to dispatch records, the fire was placed under control just past 6:10 a.m., and crews were on the scene for some time handling overhaul operations.

Although the residents were home at the time of the fire, all were able to exit safely without injuries. However, a cat was reported missing following the incident, said John Kernan, the Upper Makefield Township fire marshal.

The fire appeared to have originated in the area of a second-floor rear bathroom, Kernan said.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation as of late afternoon.

Kernan pointed out the absence of working smoke detectors in the residence. He took the opportunity to remind residents about the importance of having functional smoke detectors.

“Thanks to all of our mutual aid companies for their assistance, and to Southampton Fire Company No. 1 and Midway Volunteer Fire Company for covering,” the Lingohocken Fire Company said.
