The Upper Makefield Township Police Department had residents buzzing Wednesday after posting to social media that traffic in the area of Washington Crossing Historic Park would be impacted by a “campaign event.”

Political and law enforcement sources told NewtownPANow.com that the stop at the state-owned park was for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Dave McCormick and Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who once served as former President Donald Trump’s chief spokesperson.

The stop was a shoot for an interview or campaign commercial and not a rally, the sources said.

The McCormick campaign didn’t immediately comment on the stop and didn’t announce any public events ahead of time.

Following the Upper Makefield Township stop, McCormick and Huckabee Sanders headed up River Road to the River House at Odette’s in New Hope Borough for a fundraiser.

Earlier in the day, the McCormick campaign stopped at a Bensalem Township store to talk about the economy.

According to a compilation of polls by Real Clear Polling, McCormick is nearly five points behind incumbent Democratic U.S. Sen. Bob Casey headed into the final weeks of the election.
