MOD Pizza, a popular build-your-own pizza chain, has closed its doors at the Village at Newtown shopping center just days ahead of a scheduled eviction by the Bucks County Sheriff’s Office.

The Seattle-based chain, which opened the Newtown Township location in March 2020, posted a notice on the door earlier this week announcing the closure.

“This location is permanently closed,” a notice on the door said. “We are incredibly grateful for your patronage and support.”

On Friday, another notice revealed that the sheriff’s office would enforce a court-ordered eviction initiated by BrixMor Property Group, the property’s owner.

Court documents indicate that BrixMor took legal action against MOD Pizza last summer, culminating in a county judge’s eviction ruling and a judgment requiring MOD Pizza to pay $45,500.

MOD Pizza continues to operate a location in Warrington Township and closed a location near Quakertown in spring because of a financial dispute.

MOD Pizza started in 2008 and was known for its rapid nationwide expansion. It boasted more than 550 U.S. locations earlier this year. However, the chain has shuttered several stores amidst financial troubles.

In July, MOD Pizza was acquired by Elite Restaurant Group as the company was consider bankruptcy.
