Grocery stores were busy and plow crews were preparing ahead of a snowstorm expected to hit the region starting Monday morning.
The Sunday evening National Weather Service forecast was predicting 2 to 3 inches of accumulation in Lower Bucks County.
The Council Rock School District announced all schools will be closed on Monday.
The storm is set to begin around 7 a.m. in the area and will continue into the evening.
Due to the cold conditions, snow is expected to quickly accumulate on untreated surfaces, forecasters said.
A Winter Storm Advisory has been issued for the central and lower parts of Bucks County.
While Lower Bucks County anticipates light snowfall, areas to the south, including Dover, Delaware, and Cape May, New Jersey, could see higher totals, with up to a foot of snow forecasted.
The impending weather will also bring north to northwest winds on Monday night through Tuesday. Gusts could reach 30 to 45 mph. Wind chill values are expected to plummet to the single digits and teens, forecasters said.
Temperatures will remain below freezing for the coming days.
Ahead of the storm, PennDOT and municipal crews have been brining and salting roadways in the area.
More than 600 state crews and staff are prepared to tackle the snowy conditions, but officials warn that salt treatments cannot eliminate all slippery conditions.
Drivers have been advised by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission and PennDOT to be particularly cautious on icy spots, especially on bridges and highway ramps.
Police have urged drivers to ensure their vehicles are free of ice and snow accumulations within 24 hours after the storm ends. Failing to comply can result in a $50 fine. More severe penalties apply if dislodged ice or snow causes harm to others, with fines up to $1,500 if such incidents result in death or serious injury.
PennDOT recommends that motorists prepare for winter driving conditions by stocking their vehicles with essential supplies such as food, water, blankets, extra gloves, hats, a cell phone charger, windshield brush, scraper, and necessary items like medications or baby and pet supplies.
