Podcaster and businesswoman Alex Cooper, a Newtown native, is the subject of a new Hulu documentary series that premiered last week after debuting at the Tribeca Festival in New York City.
The two-part series, “Call Her Alex,” shifts the spotlight to Cooper, 30, who is usually the one asking questions on her popular “Call Her Daddy” podcast.
The documentary chronicles her journey from a podcaster discussing sex and dating to the CEO of a growing media empire.
Hulu describes the series as exploring “What does it take to become the most influential female podcaster of a generation? Following Alex Cooper as she prepares for her first tour, this compelling two-part documentary series traces Cooper’s evolution—from a self-conscious kid growing up in Pennsylvania to the voice behind ‘Call Her Daddy,’ a podcast that redefined the conversation for women everywhere.”
The first two episodes delve into Cooper’s rise over six years and give an inside look at her transition from a 24-year-old with a burgeoning podcast to a media mogul.
The series features Cooper’s team, childhood friends, fans, and husband, producer Matt Kaplan.
“Call Her Alex” has garnered attention, in part, due to Cooper’s accusation within the series that her former Boston University soccer coach sexually harassed her. She stated the coach “abused her power over me” through intimate questions and a concerning fixation.
Cooper, who attended The Pennington School in New Jersey, has seen “Call Her Daddy” become one of the top global podcasts and the most listened to among women since its 2018 debut. She signed a $60 million deal with Spotify in 2021.
Cooper recently inked a $125 million contract with SiriusXM, which has led to her own “Unwell Radio” station and control over its content.
Cooper has also launched other brands and embarked on her first nationwide tour. Rolling Stone has dubbed her “Gen Z’s Barbara Walters.”
