The Council Rock School District is preparing to launch full-day kindergarten for the first time in its history.
With just weeks until students walk through the doors, teachers and staff are finalizing every detail, from classroom layouts to curricula.
“Preparations for the expanded kindergarten program are moving ahead with great momentum,” Superintendent Dr. Andrew Sanko said at a July school board meeting.
He said that district staff are working across buildings and departments to ensure that classrooms are ready, teaching materials are in place, and school environments are safe and welcoming for the district’s youngest learners.
“Teachers are setting up classrooms, finalizing daily schedules, and crafting engaging curricula to support student learning,” Sanko said.
“Sincere thanks to our kindergarten teachers, support staff, and administrators for their thoughtful planning and unwavering commitment to launching a vibrant, high-quality full-day kindergarten experience this fall.”
The 2025–2026 school year marks a change in early education for the Council Rock School District. For decades, the district operated on a half-day kindergarten model. Now, the shift to a full-day schedule reflects broader trends in child development and educational standards.
As part of the rollout, kindergarten through sixth-grade students will begin school on Tuesday, September 2. Students in grades 7 and 9 will also report that day. All K–12 students will be in classrooms by Wednesday, September 3.
The decision to expand kindergarten hours has been years in the making and was approved by the school board following months of planning, budget reviews, and curriculum design.
“Classrooms are being cleaned, organized, and stocked for a smooth return for our students in September,” Sanko said.
Throughout the summer, the human resources and business offices are managing a web of hiring, transitions, and purchasing to ensure that schools are fully functional on day one.
Sanko made it clear that summer is no vacation for Council Rock’s staff.
“Our human resources and business departments are managing the important behind-the-scenes work of hiring and procurement. They are helping new staff members transition into their new roles and ensuring that schools are fully operational for the start of the upcoming school year,” Sanko said.

The Home Access Center (HAC), parents and students’ portal for schedules and contact information, will open on Friday, August 1, Sanko said.
District officials asked parents to log in and make sure all contact information is up to date.
Sanko stated the district’s emergency communications rely on this information being accurate across multiple platforms.
Parents will also be able to view class schedules, teacher assignments, and key back-to-school documents through the system.
