Forecasters are calling for a cold winter weekend with snow, damaging winds, and extreme cold for the region.
The National Weather Service issued an Extreme Cold Warning effective Saturday through Sunday morning, forecasting wind chills that are expected to plunge between -10 and -20 degrees.
The winter weather is expected to begin late Friday evening with light snow totals ranging from a coating to an inch.
While accumulations are forecast to be minor, meteorologists warned of a brief period of heavier snow showers or snow squalls moving through the area early Saturday morning.
The National Weather Service said in a Friday morning briefing that even with light snow, gusty winds and low visibility within squalls could make for dangerous travel conditions Saturday morning.
A Wind Advisory has been issued for Bucks County and the surrounding area.
Northwest winds are expected to intensify on Saturday, sustained at 20 to 35 mph with gusts reaching 40 to 60 mph.
Forecasters warned that the gusts, which are expected to last from Saturday morning through the evening, could result in scattered power outages across the region.
Extreme temperatures will remain the primary concern through the weekend.
The combination of Arctic air and high winds will make conditions outdoors hazardous.
According to the National Weather Service, the region should prepare for, extreme cold with dangerous wind chills.
Next week, daytime highs will hover at or just above freezing through late next week, and overnight temperatures are expected to remain below freezing for the same duration, forecasters said.
The deep freeze that has gripped Bucks County and the region since mid-January may have an end date in sight.
Forecasters said that the temperature outlook for the week of Feb. 13 suggests the region could see a shift toward above-normal temperatures.
