The Bucks County Department of Corrections confirmed a man died after a medical emergency while in its custody.

In a statement, county officials said the 30-year-old man was in his cell Tuesday morning when he experienced an undisclosed medical issue.

“Corrections staff and emergency medical personnel attempted lifesaving measures, but were unsuccessful,” officials said in a statement.

The death of the inmate is under investigation, authorities said.

Bucks County Coroner Patti Campi said more information on the man could be released after his autopsy on Thursday.

Last month, Ashley Gushue, 37, of Bristol Township, died in county custody while undergoing care at Penn Medicine Doylestown Hospital.

Campi said the Gushue died from hemorrhagic shock related to a duodenal ulcer. Her cause of death was ruled natural.

Per statistics on inmate deaths for Bucks County, there were no deaths in 2025, one natural death in 2024, three natural and one accidental in 2023, two natural and three suicides in 2022, one suicide in 2021, and one suicide in 2020.

According to county statistics from February, the latest month available, the county correctional facility in Doylestown Township had 466 male inmates and 115 female inmates.
